Pizza Friday - A Pizza Revelation

The girls are tired today and I could tell they would be in no mood for me to mess with their pizza and do something new. So, I settled on "plain old cheese." I used our regular pizza crust recipe only this time I doubled the garlic powder & oregano and once the dough had risen I only used half of it and made a thin crust. MUCH better with the thin crust. Using the whole ball of dough makes it so thick and filling. Plus now I have the other half of the dough in the freezer for next week. SCORE! I'm going to repost the recipe here because it's really worth making. We love it and the girls ate even more than usual tonight :)

Our Favorite Pizza Crust

1 C warm water
1 package yeast or 2 1/4 t yeast

1 1/2 C unbleached flour
1 C whole wheat flour
1 t sugar
1 t salt
1 t garlic powder
1 t dried oregano
2 t olive oil
1 t honey

First, add yeast to warm water and set aside. Next, add remaining igredients to stand mixer in order listed. (I do it in this order so I don't have to wash the teaspoon. And if you do the honey after the olive oil it slides right off the spoon and doesn't stick.) After all other ingredients are in the mixer, add the water and yeast mixture. Turn on speed 1 or 2 for about 5 minutes, or until dough has come together in a ball and is no longer sticking to the sides of the bowl. Take the dough out of the bowl, drizzle some olive oil into the bowl, and return the dough to the oiled bowl, turning to coat the dough. Wet a paper towel with warm water and lay it over the dough in the bowl. Set aside for at least 30 minutes to rise.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Divide dough in half, reserving one half in the freezer for next Pizza Friday! Press, stretch, or spread dough onto cookie sheet (we use a Silpat on the sheet). Top with sauce, cheese, and desired toppings. Bake for 10-12 minutes, depending on how brown you like the cheese and how crunchy you like the crust. ENJOY!
